Balancing act
All we need is a juggling act and we’ll be a full-blown circus…
Dinner’s done. Doorbell rings. There stand a gaggle of children whom we’ve never seen before. One clutches a unicycle.
‘Still got yours?’ he calls out.
I know he’s not talking to me, but Husband-Will heads immediately for the garage, a sort of one-wheeled-telepathy kicking in.
Somewhere through the ‘kids-in-the-neighbourhood-communication-system’, the message has gone out that the head of our family is a unicycle rider. The aforementioned lad has gotten one in the last month or so and wants acknowledgement in this universal fraternity of balancers. And off they go. And ya know what? That kid is really good.
Me? I’m doing my own type of balancing act these days.
We’ve made the decision to move house, a prospect that’s been simmering for the last eight months. So prior to our summer holiday in the US, I’ll be juggling boxes for the next few weeks.

Wow! Big move or round-the-corner move?

Good balancing…….moving how exciting…..theres sure to be a house with your name on it out there somewhere. Thinking of doing the same thing spring next year…..only thinking though. The house is a tad too big for us now the children have all gone….but….don;t know if ready yet, we will see.

argh - moving = major nuisance:(( the only good thing about it is that you might have a go through your stash - and find things, you forgot you owned:)) i.e. if your stash’s large enough for that!

Too fun! I love that the kids were bold enough to ask your husband to come out and play.
May the packing/moving fairies find you!

Invest in sharpie markers and good boxes. It’s truly valuable to be able to know which boxes go into which room, and to know what’s in them. And movers, if you can at all afford them, because although they may break something, you’ll recover so much faster at the other end.
Moving has always been a paring down process for us, as we’ve asked ourselves what we really don’t need to drag along with us … and as we’ve just plain chucked huge volumes of things, most of which had been given to us by well-meaning but dispose-a-phobic relatives.
May the purge fairies find you and bless you heartily!

I love your borrowed” idea about knitting during your summer vacation in the US. We’re just visiting relatives a mere 1700 miles from home this summer, but I think I should do the same thing. It’s always such a hastle shipping stuff, and I’m usually late.
I love your rhododendrons in your previous post. My parents live in northern California, and there is a rhododendron preserve near them. Sadly, by the time we get there each summer, they’re finished blooming.
Good luck with your move.
