Do you have a sewing machine? Personally, I'd pin it to the right size, with maybe 3 sections being taken out of the mix, and then I'd run it up on the sewing machine. If you can find a good representation of a head, you might even be able to tailor it quite nicely to the correct shape.

Then, if you decide that you don't like the looks of it, you can still use the pieces in other things - use the newly-sewn hat as the underneath for a different hat, and use the leftovers, sewn together, for extra-warm bits in some other project. Perhaps pads for children's knees or something.

one of those retro round couch pillows, perhaps? If you stuffed it and came up with either a tapestry or knitted circle to sew in the opening?

drum cymbal cover? ah. . . . djembe drum head muffler! How 'bout that?!

steering wheel cover?

this is fun - thinking of all the 'out-of-the-box' possibilities! (also wonderful therapy for the creative blah's. . . . .) Now watch a martian show up for it, after all.

look for a rastafarian maybe?:)) you could just turn it around, crochet a few rounds onto the darker part and use it as a bag later. I did a "baby cap" from handspun cashmere a while ago - turned out far to big and I didn't want to felt it. the pope probably doesn't wear them with lily-of-the-valley pattern, so I did turn it, crocheted a shell pattern from the lower rim upwards, put a ribbon through - gave it to my friend (who was totally delighted!) and she uses it for cotton wool balls now - very fancy:))

It looks like a muffin top. Perhaps someone with big hair could wear it. I rather like the color combination. Forgive me, but nothing I have said seems helpful.
