The elk will make the spooky noises. Deer ... don't seem to make any noise, from what I can tell, unless they're in distress. I'll never forget the first time I heard two deer fighting--it took me the longest time to figure out what it was! When my daughter was born, she would make these noises in her sleep, and I thought she sounded just like a deer and no one understood what I was talking about.
