Speaking of spooky…
Have you ever heard a deer whistle?
Do they whistle in North America?
They certainly do in Europe!
And it’s a creepy, fearful, haunting, yet somehow fascinating sound.
Imagine shrieking child mixed with screech owl blended with a little sea gull.
Wishin’ I had a little audio sampling for ya.
But sadly, I don’t.
Happy Halloween!
You’re kidding, right? Deer whistle?
My FIL is a deer hunter. I’ll ask and report back.

Deer do make the strangest noises. I’ll never forget the first time I heard two deer fighting–it took me the longest time to figure out what it was! When my daughter was born, she would make these noises in her sleep, and I thought she sounded just like a deer and no one understood what I was talking about. I guess we who live in the woods or deep in nature are the lucky ones?

I think that, in North America, people pretty much talk about elk doing that, or moose, but moose just bellow. The elk will make the spooky noises. Deer … don’t seem to make any noise, from what I can tell, unless they’re in distress.
