Sunday Reflection—Not-So-Random-Act-Of-Kindness
Never underestimate the ability of a child.
Last week I passed a milestone of age…not a big milestone, mind you, just a little one. I confess I’ve had better birthdays, as this particular one happened to include—
1) A favorite dish broken
2) A minor-yet-enough-to-do-a-good-amount-of-damage bashing of the car
3) A husband still in the US
Ah…but then, the kids did their ‘Happy Birthday Mama’ magic.
A picture by He-Who-Hates-To-Draw, which shows me at my favourite pastime. ‘You came out a little fat,’ said he, ‘but that’s because you’re wearing a woolly jumper you knit.’
A necklace chosen and paid for by Now-Eleven-Year-Old-Daughter-Kate, which was promptly put round my neck with fierce gratitude.
Not only that, the dishwasher was unloaded and lunches were made by Birthday-Gift-Giving-Hands. Nope, never underestimate the ability of a child to give a gift that fits just right.

sigh. . . . how wonderful. Happy Birthday from both T and myself, and I trust the the former gremlins have been banished for good by Kate & Alex! (we did hear about the ’scissor, paper, car, rock’ episode. . . . “car, rock” being the operative words). Bummer.

Gifts from the heart, especially the hearts of children, are so precious. My most precious present for my 50th birthday last month was when my youngest, my son who is 18 years old and much taller than I am, held me in a hug and sang me happy birthday.

Oh Cheryl that sounds like a bad week and a good week. The necklace is lovely and well chosen for you, and the drawing is very good with the yarn and knitting needles. Hope DH is back soon and that this week will be a much better one. Had a problem with the car last week myself as you can read on my blog. Its just so annoying and frustrating. Thankfully you are all right.

Belated happy birthday! Hooray for wonderful drawings and necklaces and having the dishwasher emptied by someone else!
I *love* the picture of you knitting. Before I read anything, I looked at the picture, and wondered (for only a split second, mind you) why a child would be drawing a female reproductive system. Only a split second.
Mind you, the womb I knit didn’t have pipe cleaners, so the fallopian tubes shot straight out like that. I couldn’t get them to curve around like normal ones.

Maybe that’s why I didn’t recognize a ball of yarn and needles for what it was.

Happy belated birthday. I really really really like the drawing! And the explanation. I am also really really really impressed with your daughters ability to not only find a wonderful gift, but to also pay for it. You are truly blessed!
