Harbingers of Spring
If the ‘sweet smell of Christmas’ is cinnamon, then the sweet smell of spring must be hyacinths.
Christmas gift from Lucy-Of-The-Lodge sitting in my kitchen window. What a lovely contrast to the dull, drab exterior view. Wishin’ I could invent ‘blog-o-smell’ to share the heady scent!

More than the hyacinths, the GRASS in the background of the picture made me swoony. Who knew that one could hunger so much for plain ordinary grass? I MISS DIRT. I just *hate* living in the city… the next break in term cannot come a moment too soon - - we’re considering moving then instead of waiting til end of May…

Beautiful, I can smell them from here. I have never had any luck with these bulbs. I have tried forcing them for several years. What i do have luck with are the Narcissus which take over my garden every January,

Just following a winding thread, brought me across Knitty and the Tudora. I have arthritis in my neck and in the winter I always wear something around my neck to keep it warm and considerably pain free. I wear some scarves and smoke rings and some other fashionable (and some not!) things. I really like Tudora because you can take it off without having to pull it over your head and it is very fashionable. I am also a bohemian wannabe-it just doesn’t work for me! Doesn’t keep me from trying and giving the boho’s in my life things that look cool on them! Have you seen the Celtic Memory Yarn blog? She has many beautiful posts from Ireland. I was reading through your old posts, but haven’t got to why your are now living in Ireland. I knit and enjoy a simple life in Washington state. I am looking foward to reading more of your blog and about your life in Ireland.

This is a bit random but… Hyacinth in Spanish is called Jacinto, which is also a male name, and changed to Jacinta it´s a female name that we also use in English. I love Hyacinths but find it odd when my students want to be called by the English version of their names and I end up calling men in their 50s Hyacinth!
