Avant Garde
It’s not rocket science… or is it?
That was then…
This is now…
‘How cute!’ you may say.
‘Uh….’ I may reply.
‘Look, they’re square, how avant garde!’ you may exclaim.
‘Erm….’ I may stutter.
‘Wow, you’ve oriented them with a 90º turn!’ you may notice.
‘Hmm….’ I may mutter.
You see, for all my logic and measuring and mathematics, these place mats are not what I intended. Nope, not what I had planned…at all…in the least…and I have no idea what happened.
Ah well, fact is I like ‘em nonetheless…perhaps cuz they’re avant garde!

Sometimes the most creative things happen with something I did not plan or expect…
I think they are gorgeous!

I love the close-up shot. It’s like when nature shows take you into the center of a flower or down inside an ant colony. Suddenly something we think we know becomes new.

50 percent of my projects do not turn out like the blueprint in my head….i love your color choices and think they look nice!

Really lovely. I don’t weave and am thus twice impressed.

They are square, to be sure, but they look great. Did you use fabric to make them? I don’t weave (yet) so I don’t know the technical terms!

I agree with Orghlaith. I think they’re lovely, and I still feel about weaving the way I used to feel about knitting (”Wow, I could never do that!)

I love creativity with unpredictable results. I suppose thats why I like feltmaking! I love the look of these mats.

I love the place mats. They look great on the table. Congratulations to the winners of your contest. I was surprised how quickly that went….. When I saw how many comments you had after announcing the contest I figured it would quickly, but WOW!!
Stay warm and have a wonderful day.

Now if you hadn’t suggested anything was awry, I wouldn’t have known the difference because I have, in fact, seen square placemats. And if anyone says anything, just smile and say, “I’m reinventing the whole concept of table design.” When you use “reinventing” and “concept” in the same sentence, you automatically sound like you know what you’re doing.
Frankly, I think they look lovely.

Very cool! What kind of loom did you use to make them?

You have been awarded the “You Make My Day” award.

They look nice … but if you hate them then you can pack them up as a gift for somebody without the idea of what they should have been.
