Powdered Stuff Aplenty
…and we’re still not talkin’ about snow…
So, what d’ya do when you have a surplus of powdered icing sugar intended for Christmas baking and a borrowed bread machine?
You make doughnuts of course! Authentic-yes-they’re-fried-in-oil-real-homemade-goodness doughnuts with lots of powdered sugar oozing into a proper glaze by morning.
Would I buy doughnuts with regularity? Not really. Will I make doughnuts with regularity? Hmmm…
Think this bread machine might be the hyper-carb-death of me!

I hope you have plenty of neighbours/family to share these goodies with
if not you’ll gain weight very quickly
By the way, I found the dry yeast…went also to the Irish yeast co (closed for the moment because the old man died)..;and found fresh yeast at the bakery of Superquinn !!! Thanks again for your advice.

So…yeast doughnuts? I have an awesome family recipe for doughnuts, but it’s a cake doughnut so it never occurred to me to try making the dough in my bread machine. I love the idea though, and I make all my bread/rolls/etc. dough in my machine at this point.

Oh so yummy! We had a neighbor lady that made the best buttermilk doughnuts, she would never ever pass out the recipe, i think she took it to the grave with her. But she was always very generous to the kids with the doughnuts, especially on snowy days when we would all be out playing! Yours look scrumptious! Your package arrived yeaterday as well. Thank you, it looks wonderful and i think i have the perfect project in mind.

You HAD to suggest doughnuts? You had to say that word? I was FINE with my toast and coffee, sitting here, minding my own business, eating like I should and up pops your blog with…HOMEMADE DOUGHNUTS. This changes my plans for the entire day.

I had never thought of doing donut dough in a bread machine. How exactly does one do that?

Ooooh, what a great idea! I’ve got leftover powdered sugar, too! Now, where’s your recipe??

I wonder if you could make homemade bagels too. I’d assume it’s similar, but with boiling and baking replacing the deep frying. I think I’m going to have to play with my bread maker.

I am a bit late in replying - but yes, I was suggesting bagels too:)) nice to eat, similar to make - but not quite so fatty/sugary and high in calories….. I just have to dig out my recipe - but I found that on the dough setting I can pretty much use any recipe (as long as the tin isn’t overloaded) from the books. I just have to replace the fresh yeast with dried, no problem at all…..
