Less Than 24 Hours
Today is the day we do all the final signing of papers for the new house in the US. But it was yesterday when I found my ‘new home.’
It took no more than 14 hours after the Kiddies and I landed on US soil before the family walked by this shop in Old Town Alexandria.
As you can imagine, the gravitational pull was overwhelming, and shamelessly leaving the others to find their own amusement, I dashed in. Okay, I say ‘dash,’ but it was more like a leisurely stroll, for who could zip in and out of this fine establishment without taking time to appreciate its ambiance, right?

Doing a poor job of controlling saliva glands, I tried to look like the Well-Traveled-Just-Arrived-From-Europe-and-Other-World-Destinations knitter, but I think they saw through that façade. In mere moments, though, I learned of their knitting night, community outreaches, drop-in-and-knit opportunities and (gasp) the Maryland Sheep and Wool Show going on this weekend with the Ravelry gang in attendance! Hey, don’t I live near Maryland now?
Well, it probably won’t happen for me this weekend (sigh), but there’s always next year…plenty of time for my Irish friends to plan a fibre field trip, eh?

Looks lovely. I hope you have many happy hours in both your new homes. Perhaps we can organise a twinning ceremony between Nirvana for Knitters and This is Knit, That could be interesting!

Now who could ask for more? Unless od course your second new home would be right next door to your first new home. Welcome to the US……….

I am utterly green with envy! That looks like the yarn shop of my daydreams. You’ve been blessed!

Oh Cheryl that looks just heavenly. There are no yarn stores like that here, well that I know of anyway. Easy knowing where you’ll be spending free time! How lovely. Is this near to your new home?

Welcome to the US! Do try to make the Maryland Sheep and Wool. Their website is http://www.sheepandwool.org. Something for everyone to do. I will be at the Yarns International booth off and on on Saturday so if you come be sure and say hello.

Welcome back to the U.S.! That looks like an absolutely delightful shop - wish I was closer! I love the D.C. area - I visited way back in 1984 when my cousin was going to med school at George Washington University. Congratulations and Best Wishes to you and your family in your new home. How exciting!

P.S. I was just curious as to why the date and time is ahead by 8 hours - is it still on Ireland time? ;o)

I’ve been there! I found a lonely half price skein of alchemy haiku in stunning ‘foxglove’ in their sale bin! Never would have sprung for it otherwise. Plus all sort of other goodies. The people working there were so sweet, and let my friend use their ballwinder to wind up the extra special hand dyed New Zealand laceweight she picked up in the back room. Enjoy!

I’m so happy to see that the blog will continue even without the envy inducing images of Ireland. Actually, with pictures like this you may have us all wanting to visit the mid-Atlantic states! I hope the move went/is going smoothly.
