Land Aplenty
What might look like mounds of chopped up sticks to you is, in fact, composted gold to me.
I think the quantity of warning signage put me off in the beginning, but eventually the words ‘FREE MULCH’ won out.
It Will Tie In Eventually Digression Ahead:
I believe I have finally come out of my transitional stupor. Months of directionless activity are now giving way to purpose. As the mental fog clears, I am beginning to piece together where my energies should be directed…I think. But, perhaps that’s better left for another, more reflective, post.
Suffice to say, today’s bright and crisp autumn day was perfect for driving down the beautiful George Washington Memorial Parkway to avail of free mulch offered to those willing to sacrifice the cleanliness of their car interior. Two trips and seventeen nearly bursting garbage bags later, the flowers are bedded for another winter.

The downside to that free mulch is that it’s usually full of weeds and parasites so you have to be really up on it. Depends what they were clearing and where they got it. Not a huge problem — unless they got some thistle. HATE THISTLE (can you tell I got the mother lode of thistle — oh, yeah).

I find that the cooling temps do help to clear any transitional stupors. I don’t know if the crispness just wakes one up a little from the spa like humidity of summer or if it serves as a little friendly reminder to work work work to keep warm.
Glad you feel the fog is lifting.
Cheers!

I know nothing about mulch, free or otherwise!! I’m better than weed killer for plants, they die as they cross the thresh-hold of my house/garden!! Strangely I don’t have this effect on actual weeds!!!
I do know about a summer of living in a fog, and I too am starting to come out of my fog!! You have my sympathies, and I know that we will make it back to normal life its just a bit poo as we get there!!

Hello C~
We love the Grist Mill. That is where little C plays soccer. Haven’t had time to fill the bags up with mulch yet – crossing my fingers that there is still time.
I have to send you the picture of A wearing my first sweater I made in Belgium.
Hugs,
Q
