Crash and Burn
A little like going from 60 to 0 in 3.8 seconds.
I can’t be sure, but I think it wasn’t too long ago that my little loom was just smoking. Ah yes, I remember now…5 scarves handwoven in 7 days. Well, before I totally dislocate my shoulder from all that back-patting, I guess I ought to show you the latest loom work.
No that’s not a houndstooth-scarf-to-be. It’s a pile of wool and cashmere rubbish.

And those bits and pieces are no longer holding a warp.
And those heddles are sadly empty.

It took a long time to decide to abort this doomed project. Not an easy decision, mind you. But there were too many disasters and tourniquets and patches to reclaim or recycle it. After the decision was made, it took about 3.8 seconds to chop it off and chuck it in the bin.
Is there any moral of the story? Ehm…no, not really. But I’m taking it as a sign to put away the winter wool and cashmere and I’m pulling out the cotton for spring projects!

Ach, I had some purging moments myself and had to close my eyes and toss yarn that just couldn’t be anything after several attempts and then decades in a bin. Hurts first and then freedom.

ah well, it’s better to get rid of it instead of being annoyed with it for weeks! I collected cut-offs etc. for a long time (with plans to cut them up finely and maybe card them into a tweedy fibre or something), I even started to take apart shade cards to keep the short bits to spin them into a barbed-wire style yarn – but eventually I had so many bags full of the stuff, that I decided to just chuck it – if I don’t use things like that for several years, I am not likely to use them at all! you could of course make loads of wet-felted items and felt in bits and pieces:)) or use them for more knitfelted i-cords…..

I have a pile like that somewhere! Only mine has bits and pieces of rosewood knitting needles mixed in, thanks to a teething Australian Shepherd and one really lazy knitter.

Ooooh, someone is starting to get spring fever? Is it all those seed catalogs causing this? smile

Off with the old, in with the new! Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and go to town! Wow, I’m Queen of the Cliche!

Oh dear, but sometimes being decisive is the very best thing.
