Survey Says!

Posted by Cheryl on Feb 09 2009 | 1. Knit on Monday

I’m a fairly decisive person…after a bit of dithering, that is.

Perhaps it’s a gender thing.  Husband-Will…he’s purposeful, intentional.  Me?  I need data…input…information…opinions.  And then there are those times when there’s no clear ‘best’ option and it comes down to preference.  Such is the case here.

Decided to put one more Tudora on the Etsy site.  Yellow.  Such a bright and cheery color!  Knitting the button band demands a decision on the button and buttonhole size.  But which button shall I choose?  Can’t decide.  Time for a survey.  So here are the options in no particular order of preference.

Option 1 – Light shell to brighten it up

Option 2 -Antique option

Option 3 – Weightier with more contrast

Which would you choose?

A Bit Of This
For some reason, Tudora has struck a chord with the French speaking population.  Their naturally good taste, right?  Thankfully, Carole, a French-Canadian knitter with foresight translated the pattern ages ago, which can be found on Helene’s blog…just in case you’re French…and knit…and happened upon this blog…and can read enough English to know to click the link…for a French version of the pattern…in case you don’t read English.

Anyway, now the Germans have asked to be represented.  And they sought permission.  And they want to avoid any copyright infringements.  And they want to give full credit where it’s due.  Gotta love the Germans.  Thanks Bea!  Link to be announced…

And A Bit Of That
Etsy’s got competition.  Perhaps you already know this, especially if you live in the UK.  I stumbled across this website…folksy.com.  Cute stuff!  If you’re an Etsy reader the layout will look quite familiar.  And the name rhymes…how convenient!  Sadly, they only cater to UK-based sellers in their Beta phase, but certainly watch that space!

  1. I am of zero help on the button front. I’m one of the most indecisive people I know. I have three neckwarmers sitting in my house, waiting to have buttons added. Winter will be over by the time I make a decision, and I’ll be forced to put them away for next year.

I did try, for your sake, though. I looked at the first one and thought “nice”.
I looked at the second one and thought, “oh, wait, maybe I like that one better…not sure”.
I looked at the third one and thought, “hmm…let me go back and look at the first one again”

In other words, I can’t help you! ;-Þ

I did not know about folksy. Interesting.

Congrats on the expansion of Tudora! :-)

The shell would be my second choice but I’d definitely go with option 3 – very cool button!

  3. i like option 1, the shell button. it is a cheery button. but tudora is such a regal piece and option 3 may give it the heft it needs while still being friendly.

congrats about the translations! very exciting.

  4. I would choose probably the third one. It looks a little more rustic, which is more my style.

  5. I can’t help you either. I can’t even decide on what project I want to start most of the time, much less make style decisions. I like all three, and would probably choose the third one….I think.

I’m with you on your Facebook observations. It’s kind of in the Christmas card category. I know people who send our hundreds of Christmas cards, mainly so they can say that…they send out hundreds of Christmas cards, not because they actually care that much about the people they’re sending them to.

All three are good, but I think I’d go with number 2. Nothing like adding a bit of confusion to a survey!

  7. Button 2 is the one that attracted me…but there again they all look good.

  8. I’m very asymmetrical in design and living. Odd numbers. So I pick 1 and 3. Make them both!!

  9. no help whatsoever – I wouldn’t have knitted in yellow in the first place:)) but I’ll check out folksy… and there is another european “etsy”… dewanda, should come up on google if anyone is interested!

    happy knitting!

  10. One is okay…just “okay.”

Two: very mid60s Bond girl nouveau riche type worn with white belted trench coat and sunglasses while driving a Triumph Spitfire along the coast.

Three: Best of all. Nice and earthy warm.

    Well….you asked…

  11. I love the shell — I think it goes along with the sunshine-cum-moonglow look to brighten up spring. Just enough on the next against the March breezes! Love it.

  12. oops. “neck” not “next”. I tried to fix it, but it was too fast for me. :D

At first glance I would have picked option 1, but now I am really into option 3. Good luck! (I like the button for Option 2, but it just doesn’t speak to me.

  14. Oh, interesting choices. For myself I’d pick the third button. But if I was creating it for sale, I’d pick the first one, because I think it would attract the buyer’s eye to your lovely garment. :)

  15. I definitely am into the third choice. It seems the most at home with the yarn. 1 and 2 are very nice options though. It would be great with any of them!

This indecision drives me mad in other people. ‘Just pick one!’ I scream (usually internally). I vote for button 3 but if you have a gut instinct go for it!
    Its only a button!

  17. Hmmm, between 1 and 3, leaning on 1~~

  18. I love that yellow yarn. Very cheery.

My initial reaction was towards the first button. I like how it picks up the color of the yarn. But then I thought it might be a bit delicate for the chunky, wooly yarn.

I honestly didn’t like the second one at first, but it is really growing on me. It’s funky and different.

The third one is okay. It’s a nice contrast with the blue and brown against the yellow.

I’ve seen folksy on some of the UK blogs that I read. Just what I need. Another place to find awesome hand made goods!

I was partial to the the button with spots, was that number 2?

As you described you and Wil’s differences in choice making I was reminded of a book I recently read about how we make choices and the hazards of too much choice. If you’re interested check out “The Paradox of Choice”.

  20. First choice is Option 3. The shell button would be my second choice.

Congrats on Tudora being such an international success! Very cool! :)

  21. I like number 3 best, with the shell button being my second choice.

Definitely option 3 gets my vote – now I must check the next blog entry and find out which one won!
